Ghanaian Names

My name here is Abena because I am female and born on a Tuesday. Usually you would have a second name that your family gave you. I was asking about this and the woman all suggested my grandmother’s name. So, we decided on Abena Evangeline, as Abena Arline just doesn’t sit right on the tongue. Joe is born on a Wednesday and therefore called Kweku (pronounced Kwey-ah-coo). He likes to call himself Kweku Ananse when he is joking with the Ghanaians on the street. Kweku Ananse is the main character of our short film (which has just finished!! Well done Joe!). He is said to be very tricky and mischievous, so Joe has fun comparing himself to him.
